
Four Orange County girls volleyball teams are one win away from playing in the CIF State Championships.
Capistrano Valley Christian, Cypress, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita play in CIF Southern California Regional finals Tuesday. All four county teams play away matches that start at 6 p.m.
The Southern California regional champions play the Northern California regional champions in the CIF State Championships on Saturday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.
Mater Dei (33-5) plays at Sierra Canyon (41-2) in the SoCal Regional Open Division final. Mater Dei lost to Sierra Canyon in the CIF-SS Division 1 final.
CIF-SS Division 2 champion Santa Margarita (28-10) plays at Harvard-Westlake (26-8) in the CIF SoCal Regional Division I final.
Cypress (23-10) plays in Bakersfield against Liberty (24-14) in the CIF SoCal Regional Division II final. Cypress won the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship.
Capistrano Valley Christian (13-21-1) plays at Mammoth (37-5-1) in the SoCal regional Division IV final.
The one-way trip to Mammoth High is 352 miles. The elevation at Mammoth Lakes is 7,771 feet.
Capistrano Valley Christian made the trip to Mammoth Lakes on Monday afternoon. The Eagles made it to the eastern Sierra town of Bishop in time for dinner there.
“We wanted to get up here early to get acclimated,” said Capistrano Valley Christian coach Kelle Bond. “The elevation here is a little higher than what we’re used to in Orange County.”
