Navy veteran Danny Taylor paused before the memorial wall in Fullerton’s Hillcrest Park.

Following the community’s Veterans Day commemoration, which included the return of a parade down Harbor Boulevard, he walked up to the wall, remembering his own time serving as a hospital corpsman on the USS Repose in the Vietnam War, but also finding the name of a high school friend etched in the granite who did not return from overseas.

Throughout Orange County on Tuesday, community members gathered for ceremonies and tributes to those who have served in this country’s military.

The Fullerton event started with the parade, veterans marching along with scouts and JROTC groups to Hillcrest Park for a ceremony.

In Lake Forest, the El Toro Memorial Park hosted its 36th annual observance with an honor guard firing a salute to veterans along with the presentation of wreaths.
