Mater Dei wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. announced Friday that he remains committed to Ohio State.

The longtime Ohio State commit didn’t sign with the Buckeyes on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound senior posted on social media that he wanted to “weigh my options due to coaching changes” and “make the right decision for my future.”

The decision surfaced on Friday.

“Ultimately, I’ll be committing and staying committed to the Ohio State University,” Henry said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. “I’ve been committed to the Buckeyes for a long time. With coach (Brian) Hartline leaving, it really impacted my recruitment heavily. I really just had to take time to step back and really re-evaluate everything.”

Hartline, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, recently became the coach at South Florida.

Henry was committed to Ohio State when he transferred to Mater Dei from Withrow High in Cincinnati before the 2024 season.

Henry’s ties to Ohio include his late father Chris Henry playing wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals for five seasons.

“Ohio State has always been in my heart since I committed,” Henry said. “I’ll be staying home.”

This season, Henry flashed his big-play capability with 28 receptions for 607 yards (21.7 yards per catch) and six TDs. He delivered his best performances against St. Thomas Aquinas of Florida (135 yards), Bishop Gorman of Nevada (115 yards) and St. John Bosco (213 yards).

Henry’s junior season at Mater Dei was cut short by injury.
