The Orange County high school boys water polo rankings for Oct. 7:

BOYS WATER POLO

1. Newport Harbor 18-0 (1): The Elite 8 champion plays host to Battle of the Bay rival Corona del Mar on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and emerging SoCal rival Cathedral Catholic on Saturday at 10 a.m.

2. Corona del Mar 16-5 (3): The Sea Kings climb past JSerra in the county rankings on the strength of a fourth-place finish at the Elite 8. Corona del Mar beat Sacred Heart Prep 13-11 to reach the semifinals.

3. JSerra 13-6 (2): Jonas Ransford blocked a penalty shot in the fourth period to help the Lions defeat Harvard-Westlake 14-10 in the seventh-place match at the Elite 8.

4. Santa Margarita 16-2 (4): The Eagles and Evan Wu impressed last week with wins at Mater Dei and Mira Costa.

5. Mater Dei 8-9 (5): The Monarchs beat Palos Verdes 13-8 on Monday to rebound from an 18-7 loss at Oaks Christian.

6. Laguna Beach 13-6 (6): The Breakers edged Sage Hill 9-8 last week to move to 3-0 in the Pacific Coast League. Laguna Beach backup goalie Henry Day again filled in for injured Max Jakle. “He’s really stepped up,” Breakers coach Camron Hauer said of Day, a junior.

7. Huntington Beach 11-13 (7): The Oilers edged Foothill last week for their third straight win.

8. Beckman 13-6 (8): The Patriots play San Clemente and San Juan Hills this week in a key stretch in the South Coast League.

9. Crean Lutheran 11-9 (9): The Crestview League leader faces San Juan Hills and Orange Lutheran in top matches this week.

10. Foothill 10-11 (10): The Knights take on La Habra and Mira Costa this week.
